Hovercraft vs Snowobile | PWC Jet Ski |
All terrain vehicle ATV | Airboat | RIB boat
Adrenaline
toys introduction - here is a look at what
makes hovercraft different than other vehicles and adrenaline toys.
Hovercrafts are often mistaken for other types of vehicles,
specially for airboats
Hovercraft vs rib or airboat.
Airboats are just boats that have a
gigantic propeller on the back instead of a standard boat engine.
Airboats sometimes have hulls shaped like regular boats, but often have
a flat bottom, which allows them to travel easier over water and even
ice or snow. Hull of airboats is mostly made of aluminum. Air boats are
good for swaps with tall plants, where normal boat engines would get
tangled in plants and weeds. However, unlike hovercraft, airboats can
not travel over the sand, grass, rock, pavement, mud, or many other
surfaces. Airboat is basically just boat that does not "hover" in any
way. Airboat entire weight rests on the surface beneath, they create a
wake, and when they need to be used on ice or snow, they are merely
pushed around on top of it by the large propeller fan. On the other
hand, hovercraft actually fly about 20 cm above the surface and does
not create a wake because hovercraft weight doesn’t rest on the surface.
People specially from Europe think that they see a hovercraft when they
spot an airboat. Hovercraft is something totally different. Hovercraft
rides on cushion of air above the surface, and airboat is just a
propeller powered boat with flat bottom.

Boats and hovercraft differ in several
obvious ways. Boats have what is called a draft (or draught), which is
the part of the hull that sits below the waterline. Hovercraft have no
draft since they fly above the surface, and the skirt hanging below
the craft skims along on top of the water. Even when traveling slowly,
boats create a wake, which causes shoreline erosion, hovercraft makes no
waves. Boat motors intake water from the lake or river to cool the
engine, which is circulated then released back into the water. This
causes heated water, and potentially oil, rust, and gasoline, to be
released back into the environment, whereas hovercraft engines are not
cooled this way. Hovercraft engine or propulsion has no contact with
water. Since boat engines are submerged, the movement of the propeller
also causes turbulence in the water, which can be destructive in shallow
areas and can become tangled in weeds. When a boat encounters choppy
water or high waves it will be tossed around, but a hovercraft will
still travel smoothly along with the dangling skirt shaping and
accommodating the waves below to maintain the cushion of air. This is
why hovercraft instead of boats are commonly used as passenger ferries
in many countries around the world. And of course boats can only be used
on open water during boating season, while hovercraft can operate on
almost any surface 12 months a year (land, water, snow, ice, mud,
floods, rapids, lakes,…)
ATV all terrain vehicle vs Hovercraft air cushion
vehicle
The ATV all-terrain vehicle has come
to mean 3 or 4-wheelers, and sometimes Argos. In fact quads and similar
wheeled vehicles aren‘t really all-terrain vehicles, because they can
not travel over any kind of water. ATV’s are actually just one-terrain
vehicles - they operate only on land. ATV’s can be taken onto frozen
lakes, but will break through thin ice.

ATV vs
Hovercraft
Facts
about ATV, all terrain vehicle
-
ATVs can operate on land only
-
ATV makes damage to undergrowth
where rides
-
ATV is good for the forests and
hills
-
ATV can be used all over the year,
on land areas only

Facts about Hovercraft, ACV, air
cushion vehicle
-
Hovercraft can hover the water and
land
-
Hovercraft makes no damage to
undergrowth
-
ACV can ride on 20cm tall grass
without damaging it
-
Hovercraft can jump more than 15m
in length
-
Hovercraft is not good for
use in the forest
-
Hovercraft is still able to
hover smaller hills
-
You can use a hovercraft 365 days
a year, anywhere.

ATVs also leave tracks on the ground,
that damage shallow creek beds and other surfaces, and can flip if
cornered too fast. They also tend to be pretty bumpy. Hovercraft has
none of these characteristics. When we talk about all terrain vehicles,
we must have in mind also water areas. All terrain means also amphibian
– Is ATV amphibian? The only ultimate vehicle is a hovercraft – ACV – an
air cushion vehicle.
Jet Ski vs Hovercraft
The term jet-ski is commonly used to
describe personal watercraft (PWC). We all know that PWCs can only
travel on open water, not shallows, ice, or land. Like boats, their
entire weight rests on the water, they can be damaged by hitting
underwater objects, and they create wakes and disturbance to the water
as they move along.
PWC Jet ski vs Hovercraft
Facts about PWC Jet ski
-
PWC jet ski can ride only on open
water not shallows
-
Jet makes damage to river bottom
and ashore
-
You can not fish and fun with jet
ski
-
You can not ride jet ski in swamp
areas
-
You can use PWC 3-5 months a year
-
You need a dock to launch a Jet
ski PWC

Facts about Hovercraft - ACV
-
Hovercraft is amphibious.
-
ACV can enter water anywhere (no
need for dock)
-
ACV has no draft, hovers 20cm
above the water level
-
Hovercraft makes no waves
-
Hovercraft engine has no contact
with water
-

-
ACV can hover low water level

Jet Ski is fun to rip around on the
lake, but can only be used for about 6 months a year, and you can not
shut Jet ski down and fish or hunt from them. You also need a dock or
boat launch to get them into the water. With hovercraft you simply go
into the water, no mater where.
Snowmobile
vs Hovercraft
Snowmobiles are designed to travel
over snow and ice, and can be damaged by use on other surfaces. They can
also flip, are extremely loud, will break through thin ice, and can
even become stuck in deep snow. Snowmobiles can travel pretty fast
when conditions are good but are limited to 3 or 4 months each Since
climate environment is getting warmer, time for snowmobiling is shorter
each year.
Snowmobile vs
Hovercraft
Facts about Snowmobiles
-
You can use snowmobile only in
winter on snow or ice
-
You can use snowmobile only 3-5
months a year
-
Snowmobile is good on steep slopes
-
Snowmobile is dangerous on frozen
lakes on thin ice

Facts about Hovercraft
-
Hovercraft can hover the snow and
ice
-
On ice you are completely safe -
ACV floats if ice brakes
-
Hovercrafts are not good for
forest and steep slopes
-
No mater how much of snow is,
hovercraft hovers above
-
Hovercraft makes only few cm deep
trail into snow
-
You can use a hovercraft 365 days
a year, anywhere
|
Still, snowmobiles are a good choice
for travel over snow at cold temperatures. Hovercraft flies easily
and safely over thin ice, snow, mud, and other surfaces 12 months a
year. Also if ice on lake breaks… so what – hovercraft floats.
Conclusion:
Despite the limitations of traditional
vehicles, there are a few things they can do that hovercraft can not.
Hovercraft can pull a water-skier same as boat, and hovercraft also can not go blasting
down narrow trails through a forest like a quad or dirt bike, but still
can climb on smaller hills. Still, hovercraft is safer, more
environmentally friendly, and more useful over more types of terrain
each day of the year 365/24/7.

FACT is - all adrenaline toys together,
can not take you to some places only hovercrafts can.
Only thing, these adrenaline toys have in common is price, that is about same no mater
which one you purchase. Fact is that hovercraft can offer the most of all for
the price you pay.
Purchase a Snowmobile, purchase an ATV, purchase a
jet ski or purchase a RIB craft or purchase a Hovercraft - It will cost
you the same, but hovercraft can offer you the most of all.
